Miss SVG top three sign pact
The top three in the 2007 Miss SVG pageant have signed Memoranda of Understanding to officially begin their duties as ambassadors for this country.
Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste detailed the duties of the three young ladies, which include attending and hosting cultural functions, doing promotional advertisements and representing this country at other pageants.{{more}}
She said that although the tasks of the young ladies were not similar to those of high profile representatives such as the Cabinet Secretary, Director of Public Prosecution and High Commissioners, she however described the three top contestants as Goodwill ambassadors who would spread the âGoodwill of Vincy Mas.â
Minister Baptiste said that she is trying to lift the quality of what the contestants are doing and recommended that people âread the Memorandumâ so that they do not confuse and âdistortâ the duties of the beauty queens.
She pointed out that she couldnât recall any former queens who got that sort of exposure and beginning in 2004, the queen has been afforded a university scholarship.
Baptiste said that the scholarship is tenable for three years at the University of the West Indies (UWI), under government regulations as stipulated by the office of the Chief Personnel Officer at the Services Commission Department.
However, if the scholarship recipient chooses to go to another university, they will get the value of the three-year scholarship ($80,000) once the proper contact with the Chief Personal Officer is made and the appropriate documents are signed to indicate the terms and conditions of the university scholarship.
As the designated spokesperson for the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), the queen will also conduct the pre-launch for the Vincy Mas calendar for 2008 in New York at the Labour Day Festivities.
The top three contestants will be expected to perform their duties until next year when a new queen is expected to be crowned. (SG)
