Heavy rains destroy Queen’s Drive road
After heavy rains destroyed parts of the road heading into the Queenâs Drive/Belair area from the Arnos Vale direction, persons had to find alternate routes in order to get to and from the area on Wednesday evening.{{more}}
At around 7:45 pm, an alert was issued by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), informing road users that the road was unusable due to heavy flooding.
After the rains and water subsided, it was discovered that a portion of the road had been washed into the river below.
The slippage took place in an area where a back wall was being constructed.Access to homes and buildings in the area, including the St. Vincent Electricity Services Ltd (VINLEC) Generating Station, can only be gained through Upper Cane Hall Until further notice.
Head of NEMO Howie Prince visited the area shortly after the incident occurred.
He said he heard about the slippage shortly after the flooding and considered the situation unfortunate.(JJ)
