Belhaven College looks at sexual promiscuity and youths

According to Sonita Sign, Public Health Specialist at the Belhaven College, the purpose of the trip was to try and empower young girls with information on how to make good decisions about their sexual behaviour.

“What we want to achieve is empowering young girls on how to make good decision for their whole life, how to keep from falling prey to people who manipulate them into sexual activities without them wanting and understanding the full circumstances that they are getting themselves into,” Sign stated.

President of the Evangelical Association in St. Vincent, John Lewis stated that the Thomas Saunders Secondary School was the only institution where the programme was conducted.

The team met with the girls of the school mainly during the lunch hour and dealt with a number of sexual issues, including the consequences that go along with having sexual intercourse.

The team tried to achieve those goals using dancing, speech making and drama. The programme ended last Tuesday.(SB)
