VINLEC to mark Safety Week May 27 – June 2

Employees at St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) will commemorate Safety Week from May 27 to June 2, 2007 under the theme “Sharing the Responsibility for Health and Safety.” The slogan is “You are the Key to Safety.”

The week of activities has been organised in an effort to heighten awareness among employees about the importance of safety at the workplace in light of the environment in which VINLEC employees operate.{{more}}

Employees will be engaged in a number of activities including a church service on Sunday, May 27 at the Wilson Hill Church. The official opening ceremony will take place at the Cane Hall Training Room on Tuesday, May 29, and will hear addresses from Chief Executive Officer, Thornley Myers and Environmental Health and Safety Officer, Priscilla Haynes. Following the opening ceremony, there will be a Safety song competition among the various departments.

On Wednesday, May 30, employees will participate in a Session on Disaster Management that will be facilitated by the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), two days ahead of the official start of the 2007 Atlantic Hurricane Season. This session will take place at Cane Hall. Also on Wednesday, there will be an exhibition on Electrical Safety at the Corporate Headquarters in Kingstown.

The activities will continue on Thursday, May 31 with a Health Awareness Day, and on Friday, June 1,

each station/location will host an activity for employees. There will also be a number of outstation activities, including fire drills, pole climbing exercises and rescue demonstrations, a clean-up campaign, and work technique displays and electrical safety tips held at schools.

The activities will climax on Saturday, June 2 with a Health and Fitness Walk at the Vermont Nature Trail.

Safety Week is being observed by VINLEC for the second year.
