Grab every opportunity to learn something new

Because life is an unfolding process of self-discovery, persons of all ages should grab hold of every opportunity they are afforded to learn something new.

This is according to Errol Allen, President of the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Banking and Financial Services (ECIB&FS). Allen was speaking to the 63 students participating in a Savings and Investments Course at the UWI School of Continuing Studies here.{{more}}

The 10-week course is a project of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank through the ECIB&FS and the UWI School of Continuing Studies and aims to promote financial literacy among ordinary people within the ECCB territories.

The ECCB’s local Agency representative Elrita Dick told participants that the course is scheduled to be a quarterly one and started in the other ECCB territories two years ago.

Dick said that she was glad that it has reached St Vincent and said that it was part of the Bank’s overall public education programme.

In his feature address at last Saturday’s opening ceremony Allen said that the course was one of the small steps that is embarked upon that could catapult the region to the next level of achievement.

He said that the course came out of a study commissioned by the ECCB several years ago.

Allen said that because The Eastern Caribbean Institute of Banking and Financial Service has been serving as an agent for the delivery of training in banking across the currency union, and in the process has developed UWI accredited courses, it was therefore logical that the two institutions- the ECIB and the UWI be involved in the adult and continuing education programme of the bank.
