Following a two-day consultation workshop last week, a national action programme has been developed to address issues related to land degradation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The consultation, which took place last Thursday and Friday at the Fisheries Division Conference Room in Kingstown, is part of this Country’s commitment under the United Nations Convention to combat desertification.{{more}}
Following a number of discussions, presentations and activities, the participants listed some objectives which were to be considered priority.
These include strengthening coordination among the various bodies by putting relevant policies in place, ensuring sufficient and sustainable financial resources and mechanisms, and facilitating active participation of all stakeholders, particularly the local communities in the programme’s process.
Participants at the workshop were drawn from government departments and ministries, statutory agencies, civil society, insurance companies and non government organizations.
