Mammoth islandwide Gospel crusade a success
Eight simultaneous crusades from Chateaubelair and Sandy Bay in the north to Bequia in the south for six nights is no easy feat but the mega-event was conceived and successfully executed by the Association of Evangelical Churches of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Held under the theme “Today”s Hope for Tomorrow’s Future”, thousands of Vincentians turned out each night to hear gospel music, testimonies and preaching. The speakers came from North America, The UK, St Vincent and the Grenadines and the wider Caribbean and were rotated throughout the eight venues.{{more}}
Canada based gospel singer Shirley Simpson performed at the different venues and also at two major concerts at Victoria Park, which culminated the crusades last Saturday and Sunday evenings. Jamaican reggae star turned Gospel Diva Carlene Davis also performed at the concerts and in an exclusive interview told SEARCHLIGHT, “I am excited to minister in this event because itâs truly uniting the people through the gospel”. Davis also said that she is currently working on three yet to be named albums and that her latest release is a single called “Rock me Jesus”.
Headlining Saturday’s concert was Isaac Blackman with his sister Nehilet and their 11-member band “Love Circle” out of Trinidad. Blackman is the son of Ras Shorty-I who was credited with the invention of soca music. “My music is a new genre called JAMOO, which is short for Jehovah’s Music”, he told SEARCHLIGHT.
SVG for Christ Crusade 2007 was a success with over 1000 persons going forward, the event administrator Sean Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT in a telephone interview. He also said that they had originally budgeted for $300,000 to host the event, but the final figure came out to about $400,000.
