Opening of Bridge over Dry River set to be a gala affair
The opening ceremony of the Rabacca Bridge is expected to be as impressive as the ceremony to mark the opening of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
Local cultural performers, foreign artistes and guests and the crowd pleaser -fireworks are just a few of the items on list of activities scheduled to take place at the all day event next Wednesday at the Rabacca Dry River.{{more}}
According to Cultural Officer in the Ministry of Culture, Michael Peters, activities will start with DJ music from sound reinforcement, Dynamic Guys at 9 a.m. until 1p.m. From 1p.m. to 2 p.m., steel pan music from the Sion Hill Euphonium and the Rhythmix Steel Orchestra will fill the air from either side of the bridge simultaneously.
This will be followed by cultural performances from the 13 Primary Schools that are in the North Windward and North Central Windward area and will flow until 4 p.m.
The official opening ceremony is expected to begin at that time with the arrival of dignitaries and invited guests, which includes the Ambassador of Taiwan Jack Cheng, and a member of SACE who had indicated interest in attending the proceedings.
The Official Ceremony will be interspersed with more cultural performances, including a six member Garifuna dance group Uwarani from Belize.
Wednesday’s Official Opening will include the unveiling of a plaque at the site, the cutting of a ribbon and a ceremonial crossing of the bridge and grand fireworks.
The fireworks will be followed by a celebration party, which will feature performances by local artistes including the band Axcess, Kyron Baptiste, Skarpyon another performance from the Uwarani Dance group.
