Division of Adult and Continuing Education hosts workshop

A three-day Material Development workshop from the Division of Adult and Continuing Education has now left several educators now more empowered to impart their knowledge.

At the opening ceremony on March 5, Deputy Director of the Division Frances Palmer-Clarke, encouraged the participants to come out of their comfort zones to and to learn as much as they could.{{more}}

She noted that the educators would not only learn teaching skills, but also learn copyright, design and layout of the teaching materials.

Palmer-Clarke said that she was proud that most of the facilitators of the workshop were local and pointed out that one day a career in Adult Education could be made possible and urged the educators to leave a legacy of good work.

Director, Hugh Wyllie outlined that the Division of Adult and Continuing Education was not just about people becoming literate but would also give persons who did complete their secondary education a second chance to empower themselves.

Wyllie said that construction workers who in the era of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy, have to adhere to certain guidelines for trade and employment could find the information confusing.

He also pointed out that farmers who have to adhere to EUREGAP standards, which have been established by international agencies, might also find the information incomprehensible since it could be puzzling to even the highly educated.

The Director said that his department would be holding educational sessions at many of the learning resource centres throughout the country to help simplify many of the questions that people have to ensure that they could become productive and can compete to gain economic independence.

The next focus for the Division of Adult and Continuing Education would be a dyslexia workshop to be held from March 12-13 at the Methodist Church Hall.
