New name, face-lift for Heritage Square

A name change and face-lift are in the works for the capital city’s entertainment hub.

For the period of March 2nd to 10th, Heritage Square will be turned into a ‘Vincy Heritage Village’. This will see the addition of tents and stalls featuring local cuisine, arts and craft and culture to the site located at South River Road.{{more}}

The Ministry of Urban Development and Culture’s Task Force which is responsible for the project, will also install a stage at the venue, for cultural performances.

This conversion will coincide with World Cup Cricket activities here, the Arnos Vale Playing Field being a venue of four warm-up matches.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development Andreas Wickham, said that this cultural village is expected to be a locally themed event, geared at attracting visitors and locals alike who are following the matches.

Wickham also stated that some of the additions to the area will remain after that period, as part of long term plans for the area.

Also included in The Ministry’s strategic plan, is a meeting with business owners in the Middle Street as well as Grenville and Halifax Streets, in an effort to discuss ways to make the areas more attractive, functional and clean.
