Donna Young remembered at Memorial Mass

Friends, family and well-wishers attended a Memorial Mass Service last week Thursday at the Catholic Cathedral to pay respects to the late Donna Maria Young.

Tragedy struck on August 3, 1986, when LIAT Flight 319 disappeared en route from St. Lucia with 13 people aboard.{{more}}On that fateful flight were Vincentians: Leader of St. Vincent Labour Party Hudson Kemuel Tannis, his wife Christine and two-year-old son Ordway; Miss SVG, Miss Carival and Miss OECS Donna Young; Busta Lockhart; Alida Ollivierre; Ruth Babb; Dominican Rufus Nelson; Italians Caputa and Gorla; Guyana pilot Philip Roach and Jamaican co-pilot Keith Hobbins.

The Young family was sent into shock when news came that the plane carrying their beautiful and talented daughter had disappeared while traveling to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Father, Franklin Young, said that even though it has been over 20 years ago, the memory stills lingers. He said that in honour of their daughter, a scholarship would be established. It will be called the “Donna Young Scholarship.” Young mentioned that the scholarship would be geared towards assisting people who are less fortunate.

The wreckage of Flight 319 and bodies were never recovered.
