Love Boogie to assist National Medical Fund

Vincentians will go “Back to the Boogie” when the state-owned National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC Radio) hosts “Love Boogie” at the Sugar Mill Inn on Saturday, February 25.

The show, which is in its third year, will feature the best of back-in-time music from as early as the 1960s. It is being organised with a view to providing entertainment for mature audiences, and to encourage the younger generation to appreciate the music of yesteryear. {{more}}

The proceeds from the shop will go towards the National Medical Fund. A release from the Corporation states that the Fund was established on May 26, 2004 on the initiative of the staff of the Corporation to provide financial assistance to needy persons who have to seek medical attention outside of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

It further states that the staff at the Corporation recognized that often there are persons who lack the financial means to pay for medical treatment abroad and often turn to the media to publish or broadcast their individual cases.

According to the release, the Corporation recognises that although it is unable to meet the needs of all cases presented, it would be fulfilling a noble goal if it is able to provide some assistance to needy cases through a transparently- administered medical Fund.

The National Medical Fund Committee comprises Dr. Cecil Cyrus- Retired Doctor; Economist and Consultant in the Ministry of Finance Dr. Rudy Matthias; Former West Indies Test Cricketer and Cricket Administrator Michael Findlay and Dr. Rowena Derrick, representing the SVG Medical Association.

To date, five persons have benefited from the National Medical Fund.

This year’s show will feature the local band Akcess, DJ’s Wax Masters and Hypactive, as well as NBC Radio DJ’s. In keeping with the theme of the show, patrons can have an opportunity to win prizes for the Best “Back-in-Time” Hairstyle, Finest “Back in Time” Outfit, Longest Dancing Couple and Single and other prizes including a trip to Trinidad and Tobago. “Love Boogie” will dance off at 8:30 pm.
