Man killed months before wedding

There are many tales of love and tragedy but never in her wildest dreams did Suzanne Williams of Redemption Sharpes envisage her romance ending in misfortune.

Williams was expecting to wed her lover of 15 years on April 17, 2006 but last Friday night, January 20, all those plans were dashed when the groom-to-be, Fitzroy Morgan also known as Fitzroy Gurley, lost his life following a car accident that took place in the vicinity of Karib Cable, Kingstown.{{more}}

Morgan, a 33-year-old employee of the Ottley Hall Marina, was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital at about 10:30 p.m. but efforts to save his life were futile.

Williams, recalling Friday’s incident, said she was at her fiancé’s bedside when he said words that she dreaded: “He said, ‘Doctor, I am going to die. I just want to speak to Suzanne a little bit’.”

She said the statement instantly made her numb.

Williams said Morgan remained conscious while doctors worked feverishly to save his life. However, realizing his chances of survival were slim, he said: ‘Oh God, why me? Why this has to happen to me?’

She added that Morgan then prayed until he died at midnight, Friday.

“I had some wonderful years with him. He was the best father any children could think of,” said Williams, adding that he was the

father of four-year-old Fitzria Morgan and the stepfather of 16-year-old Mozart Findlay whom he fathered from 11 months old.

Morgan will be laid to rest on Sunday.

A police press release disclosed that motor vehicle PE130 driven by Vicko Ollivierre of Sion Hill, was travelling along the Richmond Hill public road into Kingstown when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck Morgan and another pedestrian, Brian Holder of Sion Hill.Holder sustained serious injuries and is a patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The police are investigating the matter.
