Rotaracters make Special delivery to Day Nursery

Children at the St. Benedict’s Day Nursery and Infant Hospital, Mt. Bentinck, Georgetown must have thought last Sunday morning that Santa Claus had made an early stop at their institution when they saw the gifts being offloaded from a Nissan Mistral vehicle.

The shower of gifts was a charitable gesture organised by 10 prospective members of the Rotaract Club of St.Vincent who were officially pinned at a ceremony yesterday.{{more}}

The children received toys, toiletries, foodstuff, slippers, and some fans sponsored by Digicel.

The donation to the St.Benedict’s Day Nursery and Infant Hospital was part of the group’s requirement to do a community project before the members’ induction, according to Sandrina Barrock, Community Service Director.

During the last few months the Rotaract Club of St.Vincent has been actively involved with several community projects such as the hosting of a Spelling B competition and feeding the homeless. And on Sunday December 18 the club in conjunction with the Rotary South and FedEx will be staging its Annual Christmas Party at the Layou Government School for 130 students.

Starting next year, the Rotaract Club of St.Vincent will be conducting a mentoring programme and in March when it celebrates its 20th anniversary several outstanding women in the society will be honoured.

Sister Nyra-Ann Pajotte, Administrator of the St. Benedict’s Day Nursery and Infant Hospital expressed her gratitude for the support. “It will help us a great deal,” she said.

She stated that the institution needs the help of businesses and the rest of society especially with the construction of a new building.
