Digicel GSM for Anguilla

Digicel Group confirmed on Wednesday that it has been given clearance to launch a GSM network in the recently liberalized Eastern Caribbean island of Anguilla. According to a press release from Digicel, “the company’s entry into Anguilla is part of Digicel’s planned acquisition of Cingular Wireless Caribbean and Bermuda operations which have been well received across the region. Approval in principal has also been granted from the Commonwealth Government of Dominica.”{{more}}

The release continues, “Digicel will launch a GSM network on the island and play a significant role in the liberalization of the telecommunications sector bringing for the first time all the benefits of competitive rates, international roaming, improved coverage, superior customer care and innovative products and services for which the Caribbean company has built its reputation over the past four years.”

According to Minister for Infrastructure, Communities and Utilities, Kenneth Harrigan: “We are very pleased that Digicel will be playing a role in the liberalization of the Anguilla telecommunications sector. We are confident that we are now in a strong position for improved telecommunications to make a significant contribution towards the development of our tourism, financial and information-based services on our island.”
