Bambi drowns at Brighton Salt Pond

His relatively short life was one mixed with injuries and misfortune and Sunday June 19, 2005 was no exception for 37-year-old Maxine “Bambi” Dasent.

Reports claim Dasent, a chaffeur of Belmont and friends were at the Brighton Salt Pond at a picnic around 6 p.m. when he encountered difficulties in the rough waters.{{more}}

He was rescued and was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The police are investigating the circumstances into the drowning.

In January, 2003, Dasent almost lost his life when he was shot twice one Saturday evening on the Fountain road enroute to the interior section of Windward Belmont.

Dasent was described an ambitious young man who tried to carve out a living for himself. He moved from selling corn on the roadsides to owing a van called Bambi.

He was the conductor that fateful night in 2003, when two robbers, keeping in contact through cellular phones, engineered an operation which nearly turned deadly for him.
