Local beaches among top dream beaches of the Caribbean

Mopion, a sand bar just off Petit St. Vincent and Petit Tabac, one of the five islets which make up the Tobago Cays were named on Sunday May 15 by MSNBC as two of the eight dream beaches of the Caribbean.

Mopion, a beach featured on dozens of travel magazine covers and posters is described as “a dollop of sand surrounded by a transparent sea, …quite literally a poster child for the Caribbean.”{{more}}

Petit Tabac is described as “a slash of soft, deep sand crowned by a shock of green palms that is one of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ shining jewels within the Tobago Cays National Marine Park.”

Petit Tabac, once a well-kept secret, rose to International fame two years ago when the Director of Pirates of the Caribbean picked this beach to film the scene where Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is marooned on a deserted island.

The other Caribbean beaches making the list are Sandy Island off Carriacou, Los Roques off Venezuela, Tahiti Beach in the Bahamas, Sandy Spit in the British Virgin Islands, Isla Saona in the Dominican Republic and Conception Island in the Bahamas.
