Belmont promotes literacy

The Belmont Government School has hosted an Inter-house Reading Comprehension Competition in an effort to create literacy awareness.

The competition was held in age groups covering Grades 2 to 8. {{more}}According to Yvonne Quammie, Co-ordinator of the Academic Committee, “Statistics have proved that throughout most primary schools, reading and comprehension are the major problems that

hinder children from making worthwhile progress academically.”

The competition was held for the first time last year. The co-ordinator and her committee have expressed thanks to all persons who contributed to its success this year.
