Overseas Vincentians want presidential appointment

Vincentians living in the diaspora would like to see the monarchical system of government replaced by the presidential system in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This was disclosed at a press conference held on Tuesday by members of the Constitutional Review Commission. {{more}}The commissioners paid a visit to Vincentians living in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and various Caribbean countries.

The issues relating to the death penalty and same sex marriage were also of great concern to the Vincentians abroad.

The CRC is expected to make its final report to Parliament by January 2005. The Organisation of American States (OAS) funded the trips to the various countries.

The CRC was represented by Cecil Ryan and Bertram Commissiong QC in Canada; Muriel Byam and Ronald Marks in Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados; Deputy Chairman Noel Jackson and Douglas Williams, USA; O.B. Browne and Israel Bruce in the British Virgin Islands; and Don Providence, Jamaica and Cuba.
