AT&T launches new online service

Mobile provider AT&T Wireless is wading into the data processing market with a new service that enables its customers to browse, purchase and download information from the world wide web to their mobile phones.

On Monday the company formally launched its new service mMode to the Vincentian public. {{more}}The mMode service, which allows customers of AT&T Wireless to access, send and receive information via their handsets over the net, will be available free of cost for the first month after activation.

The mobile-based net service offers mobile communication, information and entertainment sites such as hotmail, MSN Messenger, CNN, CBS Market Watch, ESPN and The Weather Channel.

According to vice president of AT&T Wireless Caribbean, Stephanie Bariault, “The service is available Barbados, Antigua and Bermuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines with other Caribbean countries to follow.”

To coincide with mMode launch, the mobile company has introduced the new “Island Websites” category, specifically for the Caribbean, which allows customers to keep updated with local information such as weather, sports and local news from local news site SEARCHLIGH Online.

Neray Sam, direct sales representative for the mobile company, mentioned that the new service allows customers to have easy access to a variety information from their wireless phone. “Using the service, e-wallet customers would be able to purchase items online, download and share information with others,” Sam mentioned.

The service is currently available to postpaid customers of the mobile company.
