The Summer School accommodated 250 persons in three age groups, seven to ten, ten to fourteen and fifteen to twenty years.
The programme, which ran from August 3 to 26, introduced students to computers and provided an overview of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) with emphasis on the benefits of Internet. The functions of e-mail and search engine features were among other things covered during two daily sessions that ran on mornings and evenings.
A computer was given to the student from the most disadvantaged family background, while 38 children received gift vouchers for Internet connection during the graduation ceremony last Friday.
“Cable and Wireless is pleased to be able to enhance the exposure of our children to the World Wide Web and to the possibilities it offers,” a release stated.
