No rain could stop the Mas

Intermittent showers did not dampen the spirits of the nation’s youth as they took to the streets of Kingstown for Junior Carnival last Saturday. The display of colour and costumes at the Victoria Park, with portrayals from most of the mas bands, will also hit the streets for Mardi Gras.{{more}}
At the end of the evening the Junior Band of the Year title was taken by SVG Players International’s Viva Las Vegas with a total of 778 points. In second place was the Dragons Organization with Fanfare scoring 766 points while Nelson Bloc placed third with 744.5 points.
The fortunes were, however, switched in the Best Section category with Blondie Bird and Friends’ Mariachi from the production Mexic copping first spot followed by the section Pan from Nelson Bloc’s Our Caribbean Civilization. SVG Players International took the third spot with Chips from their Viva Las Vegas in a tie with Dragons’ Fantasia from Fanfare.
Among the major individual costumes the Junior King of Carnival title was taken by Atron Lockhart with Conquest of Mexic Military from Blondie Bird & Friends’ Mexic.
Dorian George with Playing Cards from SVG Players’ Viva Las Vegas came in second while Chavez Smith was adjudged third with Dance Sailor Dance/Fancy Sailor from the Dragon’s Fanfare.
The Junior Queen title was taken by Jolesia Pollard portraying Jewel of the Nile/Viva Las Vegas from SVG Players International; 2nd was Angelica Boyea with Integration from Our Caribbean Civilization by Nelson Bloc while Alica John with Fan Bearer/Fanfare from the Dragons was third.
