Magistrate says the hitting of women must stop and sends abuser to jail for three years

An Arnos Vale man who slammed his ex-girlfriend in the head with a stone, will now spend three years in the slammer reflecting on the fact that he should not hit women.

Aaron John of Arnos Vale was charged with the offence of wounding against Yvonne Davy, also of Arnos Vale, and who is the mother of his four children, the oldest being 17 years and the youngest 8 years.

In the mid-trial, which was being conducted by Prosecutor Corlene Samuel at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, John changed his plea to guilty and the court heard the series of events that occurred on the fateful day of August 26, 2017.

The complainant, Davy said she was in Arnos Vale and had gone to follow her new boyfriend. While walking through the area of ‘Pole Yard’, the defendant apparently approached Davy and, using a big stone hit her multiple times, including in her head. The complainant blacked out, only awakening when someone threw water on her.

Davy was taken to the hospital and treated. The two have not been in a relationship since the year 2003.

Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett in commenting that the hitting of women must stop, handed down a sentence of three years to John.
