Splectron celebrating 20th anniversary with Hot Girls Six Valentine’s boat ride
In celebration of his 20th anniversary as a promoter, Splectron will host a Hot Girls 6 Valentineâs boat ride to Canouan this Sunday.
Splectron, whose real name is Regis Williams, said patrons of the boat ride stand the chance of winning prizes, such as dinner for two at the Grenadine House on Valentineâs night, followed by a night at the Edge Apartments at Level Gardens. There is also a group prize.
âThe biggest group who party the most, or do the âdogâ the most, going to get a bucket of Kentucky,â Splectron said.
He said the first show he promoted was on February 1, 1998, featuring local talent, with a $5 entrance fee. âMy friend Fly Guy Bing, whenever he did an event, I used to be like a copy cat…so he did this show in (Victoria) Park in 1997 and I said I can do this,â Splectron said.
âIt was something I was passionate about. It gave me that rush that when itâs over you feel empty and bored and you look forward to another promotion. Thatâs why I have been at it for the last 20 years.â
Splectron said one of the crowning moments of his promotional career was when he brought an artiste âChicoâ from Jamaica the week after Sizzla had performed here.
âEverybody was saying nobody going study you all with all you little Chico. But Sizzla came off and the next week we had a ram packed event, in [Victoria] Park with our little Chico,â Splectron reminisced.
He explained that after a Guinness Power Jams boat ride, he held his first boat ride in 1999 dubbed âHottie Hottie Boatrideâ, which he said had sold out and that the boat even left without him.
âEverybody thought I was on board, but I had gone to get some speakers…I had to go on a small boat,â Splectron said.
He said his boat rides have taken people around the island, to the Falls of Baleine, Tobago Cays, Mayreau, Canouan and Union Island.
He disclosed that his mentors in the field were Fly Guy Bing and Rootsman. He specially mentioned Wayne Murphy.
For Sundayâs boat ride, Splectron is asking patrons to arrive at the wharf by 7 a.m. to give the Rapid Response Unit sufficient time to do their searches. He asked that patrons bring drinks in plastic bottles and avoid confrontations with one another, avoid harassing women and throwing drinks on other patrons.
The promoter said he intends, one day, to change his life and do Christian promotional shows. But in the mean time, the public can look forward to major productions.
