Auldine Browne – beyond Best

Since winning the Best of SVG awards for Best Hairstylist, Best Make-up Artist, and Best Salon, cosmetologist Auldine Browne is even more determined to continue pushing the limits of her profession. SEARCHLIGHT caught up with Auldine at her salon Stylin Chic by Auldine, located upstairs the MTM Building.

Q: How do you feel about being a Best of SVG winner?

A: I am extremely elated.  I know that I am good, but I didn’t realize that a lot of persons would have had that confidence in me and would have voted for me. I wasn’t expecting all three.”

Q: How has life changed for you since Best of SVG?

A: Since I’ve won the awards, persons would come and they would say I heard that you are the best, so I want to come and get my hair done, or I want to get my face done, or I want you to do my wedding for me. Apart from that, it motivated me to want to do more than just what I was doing, so when you walk into the salon itself, you must be greeted by somebody who is welcoming and we must put passion and genuine interest in what we do for our clients, because when they leave to come here, they want to come to the best. So, it motivated me to really try and live up to that name and even exceed people’s expectations when they come to Stylin Chic by Auldine’s.”

 Q: What makes Auldine different?

A: I don’t only see myself as a hairstylist. I see myself as a businesswoman. Every day I try to search for new ideas to stand out, to improve on the service we offer.

Q: Which is the most popular of your services?

A: I think bridal service is becoming one of my most popular services. Almost every Saturday, I am out of the salon between 10 and 3 o’clock. It’s very rare that you would come on a Saturday and meet me personally in the salon, because there is always a wedding to be done.

Q: You are also involved in training. Tell us more about that.

A: We’ve been doing training since 2002, and since then we have done training through the Adult Education Division in the Ministry of Education, Marion House, and I also do my own private training, where I have private students who would pay for the service.

Q: What is your most important key to success in business?

A: I love what I do. Whenever I set out to do something, I have a vision and I work hard to ensure that vision comes through. I put passion into my work.  Because I love doing what I do, it comes through in my work.
