Bamboo Spa: A Sanctuary of Solace

Inside the premises of the Bamboo Spa, guests easily forget that they are just a few feet away from the Belair main road. The serene outdoor spaces, tasteful interior décor, soothing music and calming aromas conspire to ensure that they lose themselves in this sanctuary of solace and ignore the stresses of everyday life.

Bamboo Spa is the vision of Kathleen Wright, who wanted to introduce the spa culture to Vincentians. After working for several years in Mustique and yearning to return to mainland St Vincent, she resigned as assistant spa manager at Cotton House and opened her first spa, Evolution. “Most people didn’t know about it and it took a while to sensitize the people. So, I came home and operated from Prescott Apartments in Arnos Vale for a few years, and between there and opening up other spas for hotels, God has blessed me and I was able to, after a few years, open up the real Bamboo Spa. I always loved bamboo, because I think it offers such serenity, calmness… if you just imagine bamboo, that’s what you see. So, because I loved the name, I went ahead and bought bamboo and fenced the property with it.”

Wright’s efforts have paid off, as Bamboo Spa received awards in the categories of Best Spa, Best Manicures, Best Pedicures and Best Massages for Interactive Media’s Best of SVG Awards for 2017. Since then, she has observed an uptick in new clients eager for a first class spa experience. “We’ve seen a rise in new people because they realize that it’s the number one spa, so some people come because they are inquisitive… and yes, they are satisfied when they come. I think it was a great initiative by the SEARCHLIGHT newspaper.”

The establishment employs seven persons, and Wright believes that excellent customer service is important to the success of Bamboo Spa. “We try our best to offer great quality and to be different, and being that I was exposed to the hospitality industry, I don’t think that there’s another service that can compare to this one. I always say to my staff, there may be good days and bad days. We are all human. You may not offer a great pedicure today, but the way you treat the client, the client is going to overlook that bad pedicure and say it wasn’t all that, but she was just fantastic!” The Bamboo Spa may be reached at 458-2906.
