Lodge Village woman turns 100

The communities of Redemption Sharpes and Liberty Lodge ( also known as Lodge Village) are celebrating a major milestone with one of their own today.

Today is the birthday of Violet ‘Tantie Vie’ Cumberbatch, who was born on June 23, 1917 in Lodge Village to Elizabeth Cumberbatch nee Clarke and James Cumberbatch.

Young Violet grew up eating foods like dasheen, yam, potato, tannia and breadfruit and drinking cattle and goat milk.

During her more active years, Violet made a living as a domestic. Having no biological children, Tantie Vie lives with an adopted son and still cooks and cleans and takes care of the dogs and chickens.

She has numerous relatives among the Bonadie, Phillips, Bess, Lyttle and Cumberbatch families. She had four sisters and two brothers. Her youngest brother died at 98.

Tasty Vie was visited today by many well wishers including Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne and Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
