Rotaract, JP Eustace Young Leaders repaint Thompson Home fence
The Thompson Home has been given a facelift, thanks to the efforts of the Rotaract Club of Kingstown, assisted by the Young Leaders of the Dr JP Eustace Memorial High School.
About two dozen volunteers from the two groups worked through Saturday morning, repainting the fence and gazebo.
Club president Felicia Cumberbatch explained that as part of their community service projects this year, the club decided to visit and assist where possible, all homes for children, youths and the elderly throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines. The project is dubbed âOne Home At A Timeâ and is spearheaded by the Community Service director Tiffany Diamond.
âWhen we contacted the Thompson Home, we were asked to paint the fence, as that was what needed the most attention at that point. The project included us painting the gazebo, the inside wall, and the fencing from top to bottom. Both Rotaractors and Young Leaders were given their particular sections and they all worked together to ensure that no wall nor fence was left unpainted. The painting took about three hours, but it was all done in fun and joviality,â said Cumberbatch.
Cumberbatch expressed appreciation to the Thompson Home for allowing the Rotaract Club to do the project, General Hardware for supplying the paint, and the Rotaract Club members and JP Eustace Young Leaders for their time and effort in making the project a success.
Young Leader Sanjay Lynch said that Saturdayâs activity was a rewarding experience and has fuelled his drive to get more involved in volunteering. âIt was a very fulfilling and fun experience helping out in the community and I am looking forward to participating in similar voluntary initiatives in future,â Lynch said.
The Young Leaders are carrying out their project under the theme âiVOLUNTEER, WE IMPACT.â
