Two of four surviving Vincentian students return to the State
The two Vincentian students who were not involved in the vehicular crash in Barbados that claimed the lives of three of their colleagues and injured two others, are now back in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The two female students of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) arrived this morning at about 11:20 at the E. T. Joshua airport.
They were greeted by their relatives, several high ranking officials from the SVGCC, members of the clergy, psychosocial counsellors from the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and educators.
On arrival, the students, their relatives, lecturers and others participated in a short prayer session with clergy at the VIP lounge of the airport.
The returning students were part of a seven-person contingent from the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the SVGCC that recently completed a six-week internship at the Crane Hotel in Barbados.
The accident occurred at Graeme Hall, Christ Church, Barbados at around 3 a.m.
SEARCHLIGHT has confirmed that the students, who were due to return to St Vincent today, were returning from a farewell staff function, when the crash between the car P6676 in which they were travelling and a van occurred.
The two students who are now back in SVG had also attended the farewell party, but were travelling in a different vehicle.
The fourth fatality in the crash was the driver of the vehicle, a male 23-year-old employee of the Crane Hotel in Barbados.
The two other Vincentian students who were part of the internship are still hospitalized.
