British jeweler to lead jewelry-making workshop for Vincentians

For those wanting to improve their jewelry-making skills or those wanting to learn the craft, the opportunity will arise next month when British jeweler Hillary Auty leads a workshop hosted by the Youlou Arts Foundation.

The one-day workshop will be offered four times over the period of February 20 – 23 at a cost of EC$75 per person, and will run from 9 am until 1 pm at the Youlou Arts Centre at Villa Beach.

Auty, who has been a visitor to the shores of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for many years, specializes in wedding tiaras, hair decorations and also designs and makes intricate costume head-dresses for the stage.

According Camille Musser, founder of the Youlou Arts Foundation, the emphasis of the workshop will be on learning the “language of jewelry-making”; which includes learning the names and uses of all the various components involved in the craft.

Musser also explained that Auty will be teaching the basic techniques through demonstrations.

“She will offer hints on presentation of products and packaging. She will talk about design, and encourage participants to use their imagination, and seek ways of reflecting on the feel of St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” she enthused.

“The focus of the workshop is to offer anyone, who is keen on learning and developing their skills in jewelry making, the chance to create new and exciting products for a new business.”

Participants will be provided with all the necessary materials and tools needed for this workshop.

For more information or to register for the workshop, interested persons should call (784) 457-1914.
