CDC CEO defends sponsors

Chief Executive Officer of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ashford Wood has defended the proactive position that platinum sponsor LIME has taken throughout the 2014 Carnival season.

Wood, speaking at a press conference at CDC offices at Victoria Park on Wednesday, said that his organization appreciates the work that LIME has been doing, {{more}}as it promotes the conutry’s premiere cultural festival locally and overseas.

“At the beginning of the season, the CDC signed a new two year contract with LIME and since then LIME has been so involved in the festival that we have actually been asked if it’s a LIME Carnival.

“To this we simply respond that where telecommunications is concerned… yes it’s really a LIME 4G Carnival. And I say this to bring out the point that sponsors must not simply sit back and wait for the CDC to come up with innovations for them to get the most out of the festival; it is expected that you, as the sponsor, come up with innovative ways and maximize the benefits that all can receive from one of the better festivals in the region.”

Wood said that the CDC is taking a long-term view of the festival, and sees a big difference in visitor arrivals and show attendance, with the innovations that have been undertaken by LIME since Carnival was officially launched in May this year.

Wood said that LIME is an integral part of the festivities and thanked the telecommunications provider for being on board, noting that he looked forward to the relationship continuing.(JJ)
