Founder of the group Georgietha âAunty Gâ Nanton, speaking to SEARCHLIGHT on Tuesday this week, said that the more than 200 children who turned up at the Back Yard Adventures playground in Arnos Vale last Saturday were thrilled with the event.
âThe children had a wonderful time. It is the first, and maybe the only time most of them will make it there, so they made the most of it,â Nanton said of the outing.
The children, who hailed from groups in Sandy Bay, Sion Hill, Georgetown and surrounding areas, were treated to snacks and drinks provided by AGCCO and various sponsors.
Entertainment was provided by Donald and Daisy Duck, Spiderman, the Groundbreakers and Cleforna Inspirational dance groups, as well as the ever-present Fireman Hooper,
Of course, a Christmas event would not be complete without Santa Claus, who turned up to bring cheer to the hearts, and gifts to the hands of the children who were eagerly awaiting him.
Nanton indicated that the next phase of the exercise is the handing out of toys and gifts to children in the Georgetown and surrounding communities on Christmas Day, as well as the distribution of food baskets to elderly.
âI wish to take this opportunity to thank all those who were instrumental in making this yearâs event possible to date. I look forward to future partnership and participation in this event, as we seek to do our part in lifting poverty and putting smiles on the faces of our nations children,â Nanton stated.
The AGCCO has been hosting the events since 2008.(JJ)
