Shellisa Nanton takes Miss Rural SVG crown

The Canouan Carnival, dubbed âThe Ultimate Summer Event in the Grenadinesâ, climaxed last week in fine style.{{more}}
The festivity, which came to an end on Emancipation Day, August 1, commenced on July 16th and saw many people taking part in the various events that took place nightly.
This year, Shellisa Nanton, Miss North Windward, walked away with the Miss Rural SVG crown. On the night of July 28, Nanton won the Miss Photogenic, Best Swimwear and Best Interview categories.
In the first runner-up position was Angell John, Miss Pâtani, who was awarded the Best Talent category. The second runner-up position was taken by Phillis Dember, Miss Southern Grenadines.
Fayasha Lewis, Miss North Leeward, won the Best Evening Wear category.
The other contestants in the Miss Rural SVG pageant were Ruthann Bowens, Miss OSCO and Herbiesha Gaymes, Miss Central Leeward.
On the night of the show, members of Club Nuevo, Lisa Frederick, Samantha Farrell and Hansel Henry, were all honoured for their outstanding contribution and length of service to the organisation, as part of the event to mark the festivalâs 15th year.
Seven-time Soca Monarch Delroy âFiremanâ Hooper and reigning Calypso Monarch Shernelle âSkarpyonâ Williams were also honoured for their contribution to the development of Canouanâs Carnival.
Throughout the festival, revellers partied at the wet fete, soca 360, glow fete, nite mas, JâOuvert and street jump-up.
The Carnival this year was described as successful and incident free.(CA)
