Carnival Lime Launch kicks off weekend in Canouan
Following on the heels of the “Hottest Carnival in the Caribbean” comes the “Ultimate Summer Event in the Grenadines” with the 15th anniversary of the Canouan Carnival festivals.{{more}}
This year’s week-long event kicks off today, beginning with the Carnival Lime Launch at the Canouan Hard Court.
The following day, Saturday, also at the Hard Court, Soca 360 will showcase some of the country’s top soca artistes, including the likes of Royall, Hance, Keith Currency, Icon, Queen B and Fireman Hooper.
On Sunday, July 28, the highly anticipated Miss Rural SVG will take place at the Hard Court, and will see seven beauties vying for the crown.
The young ladies are Fayasha Lewis, Miss North Leeward, Herbiesha Gaymes, Miss Central Leeward, Shellisa Nanton, Miss North Windward, Angell John, Miss Pâtani, Sasha Joseph, Miss St George, Ruthann Bowens, Miss OSCO, and Phillis Dember, Miss Southern Grenadines.
Leoni Bentick, Miss P’tani, is the outgoing monarch, and the event will see performances by calypso king Skarpyon and songstress Queen B.
On July 29, Nite Mas Road Jump-up will be the feature of the day, while Cloud Nine/Glow Fete takes place on July 30 at the hard court.
July 31 will be the date for the wet fete, and the festivities culminate on August 1 with the J’Ouvert and street jump-up, with musical accompaniment by Platinum Sounds.
The Club Nuevo organized event is sponsored this year by Carib Beer, CRD Group of Companies, Platinum Sounds, Axis, SLR, VINLEC, the Carnival Development Committee, and the Tamarind Beach Hotel.
