Shernelle âSkarpyonâ Williams says he is still feeling miserable following last Fridayâs Calypso semi-finals, where he was unable to complete the third verse of his rendition, âDonât give up Calypso.â{{more}}
According to the Upstage Calypso tent member, his intention was to pass the semi-finals and on to the finals for which he had in store another âhigh qualityâ song for calypso lovers to enjoy.
âI had two great songs to deliver to the people in the finals and that is what I was really looking forward to,â he said.
Last year, the artiste took the second position in the Calypso finals and this year his intentions were to go one better. However, as he approached the start of the second line for the third verse of the song, he fumbled with the words, in colloquial terms, âhe bussâ.
âItâs real disappointing,â Skarpyon told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday.
He noted that following the event, persons reached out to him, saying âit was unfortunateâ that he was unable to progress to the finals.
âPeople reached out to me and showed appreciation still. I still feel as though I achieved something, because people werenât hard on me or anything. We make mistakes and that was a total mishap for me,â he added.
Skarpyon, who is also the defending Ragga Soca Monarch, says he is now focused on the upcoming competition, scheduled for Friday, June 29.
The ten finalists for this yearâs National Calypso finals are Fya Empress, Joy-C, Brother Ebony, Poorsah, Sunny Banks, Man Zangie, Bump-I, Abijah, Reality and Zion-I.
The ten will now seek to dethrone defending Calypso Monarch Tajoe at the finals, scheduled for Victoria Park on Sunday, July 8. (AA)
