17 up against ‘Fire’ for Soca Monarch crown

Despite the recent uproar of soca artistes demanding an increase in appearance fee and prize monies, the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) has announced the names of the 17 finalists to compete against the reigning Monarch, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper, at the highly anticipated event, scheduled for Saturday, July 7, at the Victoria Park.{{more}}

In a release dated Friday, June 22, the CDC revealed the names of the artistes and their songs. Among the names on the list are former monarchs, as well as several new comers.

Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd – Rum Please; Shaunelle Mc Kenzie – Carry on; Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle – Monster; Aurella ‘Queen B’ Beache – Love it bad; Antonius ‘Baddy’ Simmons – Road Calling; Raeon ‘Madzart’ Primus – Haunted; Zoelah Boyde – Cyah move meh; Glenroy ‘Homey’ Delpesche – Stampize; Justin Arrindel – Rag invasion; Bernard ‘Mentalis’ John – Bend down and wuk up; Godwin ‘Gao’ Billy – Soca teacher; Eddison ‘Lively’ Mc Dowall – Mother country; Hance John – Mash up fete (steel cut steel); Cornelius ‘Poorsah’ Williams – Wrong hole; Tamisha Nichols – Break away; Roland ‘Pressure’ Peters – Clear de road and Travis “Wiz Kidd” Lynch singing Hard wuk.
