The Ragga Soca Monarch competition, scheduled for Friday, June 29, will feature fourteen other contenders who will be looking to dethrone Skarpyon.
However, a confident Skarpyon told SEARCHLIGHT that he is eagerly awaiting the night of the event to ignite the stage at Carnival City, Victoria Park.
Described as the âCrossover Kingâ by his peers, the defending Ragga Soca monarch says he is not only focussed on defeating his competitors, but on entertaining the people.
âI am just happy to know, that again, I am going to perform for the people. This is what I enjoy doing. I know itâs a competition and for that I am ready, but my main focus is to fully entertain the people,â he said.
The artiste says he has released a number of other Ragga Soca numbers, âbut the people have spokenâ and âWine Inâ is the song that he will be performing this year.
âPersons are already excited about the show and with this song, theyâre definitely going to get more excitement on the night of the show when I touch the stage,â he added.
Last year, Skarpyon reigned supreme over 14 other hopefuls to be crowned King with his rendition, âShe tell meâ.
As for his competitors, Skarpon has advised everyone to go out and give their best performance.
âI am not into the rivalry business. This is a Vincentian art form and yes itâs a competition and we have to be competitive, but not in the way where we dislike or say bad things against each other.
âI just want us as entertainers to ensure we all give the patrons their moneyâs worth. In the end, there can only be one winner, though,â he chuckled.
The other finalists for this yearâs Ragga Soca Monarch competition are: Bomani – Sagga Boy; Fya Empress – Bam Bam Talk; Tamisha – Talk; Daneel -Tell me; Zoelah -Jack it up; Poorsah – Knocking Plate; Wise Guy – Bumper turn over; Dr. P – Carnival; Troblous – Donât let go; Queen B – Nice and sweet; Shaunelle Mc Kenzie – Ruff Rider; Gao – Only money she want; Troots Nâ Ice – Sweet for so; Hance John – Down Dey and Fete King Maddzart – Woman love married man.
