Patrons – Black Rave’s a show well done

The highly anticipated Black Rave event organized by Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle and his Stickman promotions was successfully held on Saturday, June 16, leaving the many patrons who turned out at Victoria Park wanting more.{{more}}

Dressed in their black outfits, hundreds of Vincentians and visitors experienced a night of non- stop musical entertainment from both local and international artistes.

“The objective was met,” is how Skinny described the production.

“People left the Park wanting more, which means my objective was completed,” he added.

Skinny, who was still recovering from a sore throat when we spoke to him yesterday, said that the concept of the event was to bring together a cast of both local and international artistes to entertain patrons.

“What we wanted to do really was, instead of putting off a show, was to produce a show,” he said.

During Saturday night’s event, there was no Master of Ceremonies, and according to Skinny, that too was also part of the Black Rave concept, which proved successful.

As each artiste finished performing, the DJs, who included Hyperactive Sound, Pit-bull and Chemical X, along with Barrie Hype from Miami, played music for a period of time until the next performer was scheduled to appear, and when that time came a countdown was done.

This innovation was well received by patrons.

“Yeah, this is how shows should be. Less talk more music. Ah tired ah hearing people talk,” said Collville Layne, a patron who attended the event.

At no point during the show was there a lack of music. Patrons were kept on their feet, all night, dancing to a mixture of local and regional soca music from the DJ’s.

As each artiste graced the stage, the crowd went wild, waving their glow sticks and partying to the vintage soca of Black Stalin and the more modern tracks from Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons, Problem Child and Skinny himself.

Meanwhile, some of the guest artistes, such as Jamaican Dancehall artiste Spice and Trinidad’s soca icons, Black Stalin and Bunji Garlin, described the event as one of the best they’ve performed at.

“This is a nice concept, man. The idea of bringing together artistes from different islands to perform and the people, as you can see, enjoying themselves.

“Ah love it!” said Bunji Garlin, who gave an energetic performance alongside his wife Fay-Ann Lyons.

“Big up Skinny for a show well put together. I like the vibes here also,” Spice told SEARCHLIGHT.

Legendary artiste Black Stalin said “It’s always good to have a mixture of generations and genre of music on the same stage and I’m honoured to be a part of this show.”

A number of patrons who attended the show, also expressed satisfaction with the night’s entertainment package.

“The night too short, ah want we go till sun come up. Black Rave sell off!” one lady was heard shouting when the curtains came down on the event, which ended shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.(AA)
