And why should he? His hit single “No pity” for Carnival 2012 has been tearing up the airwaves since its release a few weeks ago. Already one of the most requested songs on the radio stations, Royall has no plans to slow down anytime soon.

The 20-year-old, who hails from the South Leeward community of Rillan Hill, says he developed a love for soca music while a student at the St Vincent Grammar School.

“I used to sing soca from 2006 and I just wanted to come with a different flavour and a different style this year. I’m definitely bringing a new flavour to the air,” the confident youngster said.

In Form 3, Royall placed third in the Junior Soca Monarch competition. After that, he said, he focused more on his academics than his music.

After completing ‘A’Level studies in 2011 at the Community College, Royall jumped back into music with the release of two tracks, but he admitted that they did not have the kind of impact he was hoping for.

“I was not really getting what I wanted out of a musical career and I just decided to sit back and learn different aspects of the music industry and that is why I believe ‘No pity’ is a hit…,” he added.

Royall indicated that the concept for the song came from spending time between Vermont and Rillan Hill.

“I really took a close look at how people behave during the carnival season, especially the rural carnival. It’s just like they don’t have any pity on the road. They mashing up the road with their dancing…,” he stated.

He admitted that he knew the song was going to be big when he put pen to paper.

“I just knew I had to give it my all. I had to bring it. With the one foot through the door, it has given me the courage to do more songs…,” he added.

Royall has since followed up on his word, with the release of his second track for the Carnival, called “Jab Dem” on the Muddy Jab Riddim.

The youngster says he is grateful for all the support he has been receiving from the public.

“I wanna go international, but I am just focusing on building my craft right now… Soca music is something you have to be passionate about before you attempt to do it…,” stated Royall.

He also expressed thanks to Lonzel ‘Gizmo’ Jones, his producer, Phillip ‘Wetty B’ Bastine, artistes Madskull and Shazique. He further thanked Junior Sutherland for the use of his studio and the Rillan Hill and Vermont community for all their support.
