De King’s tune gives Maddzart Road title
One of the few decisions that received little or no resistance this Carnival is the one that crowned front runner Raeon âMaddzartâ Primus the king of the road.{{more}}
Primusâ song âKing Roadâ was adjudged the Road March winner – the song played and requested most on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
Coming in second was âCharge Upâ by reigning soca monarch Gamal âSkinny Fabulousâ Doyle, while âNo Money, No Wukâ by Lornette âFire Empressâ Nedd took the third position.
The win puts Maddzart in the prestigious position of being one of the few artistes to have won a title in three categories.
Primus won the ragga soca monarchy in 2001 and 2009 with his songs âPoor People Songâ and âIs Me Friendâ, respectively.
In 2003, he took the soca monarch crown with âMotorcadeâ (Bikerâs Anthem) and also placed third with that song in the road march competition.
The following year, he came as close as third place once again for the road march with âHelicopterâ.
The hardworking artiste indicated that winning the new title is a hurdle that he had looked forward to clearing and may consider adding another notch to his belt next year when he possibly enters the calypso arena.
