Mas Kings and queens selected

The line-up for the last component for this Sunday’s Dimanche Gras, is now known with the selection of the finalists for the king and queen of the bands competition.

The seven kings and queens were selected following the first ever Mas on The Move preliminary judging held at the Victoria Park on Monday night.{{more}}

This year five bands will be represented in the king and queen of the bands competition.

Singer Lynx will be represented by queen Dawana Balcombe and king Roger Wallace, Michelle Doyle and Andrew Sutherland will represent Heineken Dragons, for Guinness Blondie Bird and Friends it’s Semone Richardson and Atiba Lockhart, for Pepsi Melbourne Artisans, Cleopatra Weekes and Gordon Boucher and for KFC SVG Players Jenilee Glasgow and Kevin Dickson.

The other queens of the bands through to the finals are Kenisha Joseph for My Imagination and Monica O’Garro for Carib Wizards.

Andre Browne of Digicel Nelson Bloc, and David LLewelyn for Aunt Jobes Market High Voltage are the other kings.

An increase of mas bands over the years had caused the CDC to hold preliminary judging, which they believe would cut down on the already lengthy Sunday night show consisting of the calypso monarch finals and the panorama competition in addition to Mas.

In previous years the J’Ouvert celebrations and Monday jump up have suffered from the lengthy Dimanche Gras. (JJ)
