Jamesy P tops Soca charts
The âNookie Manâ Vincentian, James “Jamesy P” Morgan tied with the âRoll Itâ Soca Diva Alison Hinds for Best Soca Song at the 13th annual Reggae Soca Music Awards in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.
But the evening truly belonged to the Bajans including Hinds who also copped the Best Soca Female Artiste beating nominees Destra Garcia, Fay-Anne Lyons and Denise Saucy âWowâ Belfon from Trinidad.{{more}}
The former Square One lead vocalist also saw her band take the Top Band title last Saturday, while Krosfyah also out of Barbados won the award for Best Soca Group beating groups like Xtatic and Asylum. They also won the Best Soca Album for Timeless.
Atlantic recording artiste Rupee won Best Soca Male Artiste, beating out Edwin Yearwood, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin and reigning International Soca Monarch Shurwayne Winchester.
Edwin Yearwood shared Best Soca Collaboration with Bunji Garlin for the remix of the 1996 song âAll Aboard,â which beat Natahlee and Shontelleâs Colours, Machel Montano and Dougie Freshâs âWe Not Giving Up,â and Bunji and Patrice Robertsâ âThe Island.â
The show was organised by the Florida-based âHi Class Promotions.â
