Guinness, Y De Lima Blondie Bird & Friends is bringing back the hits of Road March, through mas costumes with their 2006 presentation, “Kings of the Road.”

Founder of the mas tent, Errol “Blondie Bird” Boyde with the first three sections will pay tribute to the hits of Lord Hawk who won the first Road March competition in 1971.{{more}}

Boyde stressed that it was vital to remember former artistes as a way of teaching the younger ones the history of Vincy Mas, and keeping the culture alive.

He said that his band does not like to present illusions but likes to tell a story of the history of St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

Confident about his ability to take the Band of the Year title, Boyde boasted that he will also be taking the Queen of the Band, a position that his band has never yet attained.

He warned other bands that they will not be settling for second place as they did last year, but that they will have a great presentation especially with the Queen who will be called “Teaser.”

Boyde however said that he was proud that other bands were also launching their 2005 presentations early and that more people were playing mas, but wished that calypso and pan music would take similar positive trends.

Guinness, Y De Lima Blondie Bird & Friends will be launched on Sunday February 5 at 5:30pm at Reigate.

Music, food and drinks will be provided and the public can register to play mas with the band. Two lucky persons will win costumes in a raffle to be drawn on that day.
