Talents exposed at Music Fest

“It’s a gold! It’s a silver! It’s a bronze!” These were the phrases being sounded by the distinguished lady of music and adjudicator, Joslynne Sealey, at the National Lotteries’ 15th Music Festival, which runs from March 13-20th at the Peace Memorial Hall. {{more}}

Sealey in her distinctive Trinidadian accent praised the participants with commendations like, “good blend of voices! “What a lovely clear baritone voice!” “Beautiful intonation!”

But don’t be fooled, it is not so easy to obtain a gold medal from this lady. She doesn’t mince words and, as she peeps over her glasses to analyse the participants she is frank with comments like; “Take a good breathe!” “Use your words!” “Learn to breathe!” “Relax you face!” “Keep your tempo steady!” “Don’t be so nervous!”

While listening to the talents of locals here is the essence of the music festival, hearing Sealey carry out her deliberations in the various categories is the real nail-biting experience, since only gold medalists qualify to compete on the championship night, Sunday March 20th.

The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) must be commended for supporting the Music festival which was founded in 1956 by the St.Vincent Music Council, with $25,000 in sponsorship. Some of the categories which have already been heard are the Soprano and Contralto solos, Piano Duet, Male Choir, and the Hip Hop, Reggae and Dance Hall Ensembles among many others.

But before the champions night, you still have an opportunity to catch an extra night of the selection process tonight, Friday 18th.

All events take place from 8 p.m. at the Peace Memorial Hall.
