Miss Big and Beautiful 2004 Kahalia “Kalaijuh” Beache is anxious to compete in the 2005 Miss Big and Beautiful International pageant scheduled to be held in St. Thomas on January 23 next year.{{more}}

Beache who is already in training for her next fete took the local leg of the Miss Big and Beautiful title last Saturday at Club Marcomay in Villa.

Beache, who is known in the calypso arena in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, beat seven other ladies. It truly was over when the fat lady sang. Beache took best talent with her song, “Run to You”, while Miss Roy’s Inn Diana Jackson placed second as well as winning the judges nod for Best African Wear. Miss Blondie Bird and Friends Nzinga Sergeant was third. She won best interview.

Visiting SEARCHLIGHT last Tuesday, Beache commented that it was kind of strange that the first competition she has won is a pageant and not something to do only with singing. In her opinion, Beache thinks that too much emphasis is placed on physical manifestation and that it sometimes seems as if persons have to ridicule others to feel good about themselves.

Beache thinks that shows of this nature have a two-fold effect in that they can make “you feel very confident in yourself or help to damage you”. She however feels confident about performing at the St. Thomas pageant and is hoping to beat the odds and do what no other Vncentian has done in the history of the pageants, “place and make a name for St. Vincent”.

Other prizes given at last week’s show were Miss Photogenic, won by Miss Barnette Hair Fair Leslie Ann Browne and Best Eveningwear won by Miss Southline Beauty Salon Keziah Gregg. The other contestants were Lesley Anne Browne, Melinda Prince, Mechita Davis and Saran Nimblett. The show was organised by Beautex International.
