Technology in your kitchen

Technology is amazing! I am sitting here talking to my computer and it is typing everything I’m saying right infront of my own eyes. Of course, this piece of technology might have been around for a while, but hey, I’m just using it, so it’s like a new Christmas toy!{{more}}

This week we want to also talk about some new technological advances that have been made in recent years to make your kitchen contemporary, computerized, if you like, and sassy.

Those of you who are now building the kitchen for your home, here are a few things you can think about:

Use modern cooktops instead of the regular conventional Stove/Range. Modern is the key word here because the earlier cooktop models were coils and high edge, so they stuck out and up like a sore under your eyes. These modern ones are sleek, flat, glass surface, electronic sensors, soft touch light.These cooktops can be built in smoothly into the countertop and appear to be invisible once properly installed. Therefore, instead of using a match to light your cooktop, you just touch a button. Of course, there is built in security, so that if you have any young children in the home you do not have to worry. Most of these cooktops also cool very, very fast; some cool down almost instantly. Yes, the world is really getting ahead of itself.

Using cooktops also require you to use a separate oven. And now we are getting down to business again with another great new invention, “the double wall oven”. Again, like everything else, the wall oven has made major improvements over the years. You can preset certain cooking settings like some men who cannot really cook too well; you just set it and forget it. Gone are the days of burnt Christmas Turkey or Beef. The refrigerator also is a new computerized marvel as well. There are even those now with hand recognition and soft touch preset settings, and even built in televisions… leave me alone.

On the cabinet side, things are still the same except for the stainless steel electrical kitchens. That is another day for discussion, but here are some things you can do to give the modern look after you’ve added the touch. Use long stainless steel handles, lots of sleek contemporary recessed lighting and overhead lights. Go for natural wood over bold colours. Add bold colours on the wall and not on your cabinets. Another school of thought may disagree with me when it comes to using the colours on either the cabinet or the wall but this can be debated. Just don’t get too crazy with colours in the kitchen and you should be safe.

Lastly, update your kitchen ware. Hide up the plastics. Purchase some stainless steel pots, pans spoons and forks etc., and show them off. There are more sophisticated juciers, blenders and other small appliances that when you pull them out to cook up a storm, your kitchen would come to life. Afer all, when cooking, you do not want to feel like you are working. With all these to assit you, you will feel like a kid with brand new toys to and some may even feel like a professional, technological savy and ergonomically friendly.

Start getting ready for another beautiful and meaningful Christmas again this year! Nice talking. Until next week.
