The uses of Cream of Mushroom Soup

Many persons may not even know there is a prepacked soup called Cream of Mushroom Soup that is sold in a can.

Now I’m sure this soup is lovely to those who may eat it as it is originally intended, however, this product has helped me as a substitute ingredient. I am lactose intolerant and cannot have anything with full cream milk or too much milk on a whole.

A few years back I was speaking to a friend of mine, who is a wonderful cook, about an amazing Butternut Squash Soup that we both had at a function. She proceeded to tell me how she makes hers and as she got to the ingredient of the full cream milk I let her know my predicament. She then indicated that she had a client who has a similar situation and she substituted the milk with some Cream of Mushroom Soup. This substitution not only give for a mild flavour with no additional salt, but also thickens the soup to the desired consistency and creaminess.

The bits of mushrooms were just an extra treat.

So, I decided to give it a try one day and it did exactly what she said it would. My Butternut Squash Soup was creamy and rich with all the flavour I desired. I figured to myself that I can use this as a substitute for other dishes. So now when I make my Chicken Alfredo, I substitute the cream cheese with some Cream of Mushroom Soup and I don’t feel guilty about the added fat.

I normally get the most cost effective brand at Massy Supermarket in the IGA brand. Depending on how much you are cooking, it can be divided into two. So if you are struggling with the full cream, cream or cream cheese products, feel free to use this product as a substitute and enjoy.
