My roommate is a slob and it’s driving me crazy!!

Hey Rosie,

I have a roommate and we should be splitting every thing down the middle 50/50. She is good with the rent, food and utilities. But Rosie she’s a pig! She keeps the house in a total mess and I am so through with it!

When people stop by, I am so embarrassed because our shared space is so messy, no matter how much I pick up behind her, she drops her things on the floor, she leaves dishes etc.{{more}} Rosie I am thinking that if she can’t toe the line, I may have to leave. What should I do? She’s a cool girl and all, but this is driving me crazy!

Dear A Mess,

Ok, this one is pretty straight forward, this is a matter of tolerance and personal preferences. So it would seem as though you guys are polar opposites when it comes to housekeeping and this is really your call.

Look it’s simple, sit her down and have a chat with her, start off with all of her positive qualities such as: her paying her rent on time etc. Then explain to her that her habits are driving you nuts. Pledge to meet her half way in terms of doing the chores ( I know you already do), but it’s showing an effort on your part not to slam her. Explain the consequences of your leaving if this doesn’t work and then give a time frame.

After all that only time will tell if there are any improvements. If you see improvements then work with her. If not then you will have to do what you have to do.
