Teenage Dad steals from 71 year old man
A teenage father was given a suspended sentence, and was ordered to compensate a 71-year-old man after stealing over $1,000 worth of items from him while he was asleep.
The 16-year-old appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on April 8, 2025 where he pleaded guilty that on March 3, 2025 in Kingstown he stole one black TCL cellular phone valued EC$300.00; one wrist watch valued EC$700.00; one black glasses valued EC$20.00; and EC$20.00 in cash- a total value EC$1,020.00 and EC$20.00 in cash, the property of Cecil Sutton of Kingstown Hill.
The facts presented in court are that at around 1:00 a.m on the date in question, Sutton was walking along Bay Street, Kingstown when it began to rain heavily. Sutton ran under a Chinese restaurant close by with the aforementioned items in his pants pocket. He sat on the ground where he subsequently fell asleep. About two hours later, Sutton was awakened by what appeared to be a strong human presence over him. The person ran away, so Sutton was unable to identify who it was.
Sutton then discovered that his belongings were missing and reported the matter to the police. Investigations were conducted. The teenager was met at the police station and a search was conducted at his home, but nothing was found. The teenager, who was cautioned and interviewed, later admitted to the allegations made against him.
