Squash providing therapy for Special Needs boy

A decision by Keniesha Rogers to enrol her son, Kayden Cupid, in the Youth Programme of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association, is one she has not regretted.

The 12- year-old Cupid, who was born with hearing and speech impairment, tried his hand at Squash just over six weeks ago.

In spite of Cupid’s special needs, he has adapted well and is showing steady progress.

According to Rogers, “I just wanted to get him into activities because he is an only child, and most of the time, he does be bored but will watch television and riding his bicycle”.

Relating the transformation, Rogers told SEARCHLIGHT “now involving in Squash, he is looking at Squash games in You Tube and will take up the racket and beating the hell out of a ball and play his strokes”.

Rogers revealed that it was on the advice of a parent who has a child involved in Squash who told her to get Jayden into Squash, and “so far he loves it”.

Such has been Cupid’s growth in the sport, he is competing in the 2025 Tus- T Water SVG National Junior Championships, that opened last Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the National Squash Centre, Paul’s Avenue.
